Episode 4: WordCamp, changes at wordpress.com, more…
Episode 4 covers:
- WordCamp 2006 recaps, including video, audio, photographs and BBQ. (The Blog Herald has some very good coverage including a podcast.)
- Changes at WordPress.com:
- $15 U.S. a year to edit your own CSS. (Randy Walker and Tony Street debate if this is a good idea.)
- Domain-mapping beta test.
- Allowing private blogs.
- Menus to report spam and mature content.
- Bryan Veloso barely gets unpacked before tackling changes to the admin page.
- Redesigned login page, coupled with an argument for Sandbox over Kubrick. Will the winner of Undersigned’s theme competition end up as the default?
- Indranil’s theme Brown
- Create N Place plug-in allows you to write new blog posts right on the front page of your blog.
- Why cause problems for people using accountability software like x3watch from XXXChurch.com, when it’s so easy to just update Bad Behavior?
- Music: Ferdinand and Isabelle by The Mark Kleinhaut Trio with Bobby Watson, from the A Balance of Light. (Thanks go to Nick Carver at No Idle Frets.)

Having difficulty downloading (file for podcast 4 is incomplete / corrupted; file names are strange and inconsistent) using ipodder (now Juice) using the feed link (worked fine previously):
http://feeds.feedburner.com/wordpresspodcast/
successfully downloaded using the link:

from the blog itself.
Have recent changes corrupted the feed at http://feeds.feedburner.com/wordpresspodcast/
???

Feedburner did seem to have a brief problem fetching the feed a while ago, but it quickly recovered. As far as corrupted files, you may have been one of the unlucky ones that tried to download it while I was overwriting it with a remixed version. Sorry about that!
I would also recommend that you use the feed http://wp-community.org/feed/ because it will remain constant, whereas our use of FeedBurner may not.
Great music this episode!
Thanks, Andy!
Enjoyed the podcast! I’ll come back often. One comment from the podcast. The Brown theme is nice, though in your podcast you said it was fluid. Look again. It’s a centered and fixed layout.
Anyhow, keep up the informative, interesting podcasts. Well done.
Pause a little between stories, man.
Charles:
You have a terrible problem with the feed:
http://wp-community.org/feed/
Each of the four items in the feed have the same file name: … redirect.mp3
Furthermore, checking off only one episode leads to all four episodes being downloaded. (All on top of one another? )
I suggest you take a look. I have never experienced a problem quite like this before and I’ve been doing this for over a year.
Jim
Okay, Evan, point taken.
Jim, I could use your expertise to correct this problem. Would you mind contacting either me or Randy Walker by e-mail or by IRC?
Jim, it looks like the problem is with your podcatcher, rather than with the feed. All of the URLs in the podcast work fine, with or without FeedBurner.
[...] WordPress Podcast Episode 4 Released Just wanted to post a quick note to let everyone know that Charles has released another great WordPress podcast. [...]
Charles / Randy,
I have sent an email to the email address given in Podcast 4, Subject: “WordPress Podcast Comments from Jim” further describing the problem.
Jim
As I said on IRC (as Headzoo) I still think you need to ditch the jazz music.

Another good podcast! I liked the interviews.
On the subject of charging $15 a year @ wordpress.com, that really doesn’t seem like a very good deal. With the right coupon code you can get a year of hosting on Dreamhost for $9. That includes a domain name, and the ability to install WordPress with one click.
I know people have said the wp.com option is less technical than your own hosting solution, but really, 1-click install of WordPress and you’re done. From there you have full control over you install.
[...] The crew over at wordpresspodcast.org are getting their sea legs it seems, and coming up with a very handy podcast to keep track of what’s going on in with the WP community. For instance, the most recent (episode 4) included a recap of Wordcamp - which I am bummed I missed this year and definitely plan on attending next year. [...]
