- WordPress 2.7 is set for release November 10th.
- Automattic acquires PollDaddy, polls integrated into WordPress.com blogs.
- The WordPress Podcast was mentioned favorably in both Podcasting for Dummies (2nd edition) and Practical Web Design magazine.
- Please take a few moments to take our new survey and help shape the direction of the podcast going forward.
- Take a sneak peek at our new blog design.
- The Amazon S3 Plugin allows you to use Amazon’s Simple Storage Service to host your media for your WordPress-powered blog.
- MobilePress will render your WordPress blog on mobile handsets, with the ability to use customized themes. The plugin also allows specific themes for specific devices/mobile browsers, such as iPhone, Opera Mini, Windows CE Mobile and other generic handset browsers.
- We attempt to answer Joel Mark Witt‘s question, “How the heck do I turn off commenting for my entire WordPress blog past and future posts?” We, in turn, ask our listeners if there’s an easier way than a MySQL query to accomplish this.
- There are only a few WordCamps left before the end of the year: WordCamp Charlotte (not mentioned in the audio), WordCamp Israel, WordCamp Ed DC and WordCamp Australia.

Hey Guys, great show! Thanks for the MobilePress mention, we’re delighted you hear that you like the plugin. Also, thanks for the hat tip about iPhone Tester.
I’ve got to “stick” up for sticky posts, I think they will be really handy for some users!
I don’t they will be used quite the same in a blog as they are in forums, not so much for instructions or important help threads. But more for a welcome statement, or a major announcement.
I have a website for a political candidate that uses a sticky post for a welcome statement in the form of an embedded YouTube video.
There are also lots of news blogs that use sticky posts for daily or weekly featured stories.
I think the important thing with sticky posts, i to style them differently, so that it stands out as being important or featured, and not just a stubborn post that won’t fall into the chronology…

It was Microsoft not Apple that was/is doing what you mentioned in the podcast.
Wow! thanks for putting all that information into one short post. The new blog design looks great too.
Hi guys!
Thanks so much for the review. If any of your listeners have comments or suggestions, they are more than welcome to contact us on the WordPress forums. We do appreciate any feedback, and will do our best to make future releases as robust as possible!

I look forward to listening to this episode soon. Keep up the good work.
I’m not too keen on the new blog design, but I guess it’s early days—it may be nicer in real life when it’s launched—and since this is just a podcast, it’s not like it’s all that important.
Hi Charles and Jonathan,
Survey completed. I must say that I really like the preview of the new design.
Keep up the good work.
Cheers,
Nick
I only allow registered users to comment and I dont allow them to register themselve. That does the trick for me.
Regarding Amazon S3: check out JungleDisk — I spent $30 for their software and then $3 – $4 a month for 25 GB backup. No need to twiddle with S3 direct connections. JungleDisk mounts as a webdav drive and it’s cross-platform. I strongly recommend them.
To turn off all commenting, remove the comment stuff from your Theme.

I second what Stephen said. Just comment out the comment portion of your theme! And with the new child theme architecture, this should get easier.
Have you guys done a podcast about Themeshaper’s child themes and the theme framework “Thematic”? Good stuff of there.
Hey Charles and Jonathan
Thanks for the heads up on what’s coming with 2.7. Useful ideas on how Amazon S3 could add value for a blogger. I’ve submitted a survey. Looks like us New Zealanders need to get onto organising Wordcamp.
